A meeting was held between the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro for Economic Policy and the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Nik Gjeloshaj, and the representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Nik Gjeloshaj, met in Podgorica on February 19, 2024, together with his associates, with the President of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro (AmCham), Mrs. Svetlana Vuksanović, and her associates.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Nik Gjeloshaj, has called on the American Chamber of Commerce, as a key actor, to work together to promote investment opportunities and business opportunities in Montenegro. He has also expressed his willingness to work on initiatives to improve the business climate and attract investments from American companies.

“The Government’s efforts are aimed at pro-Western and credible investors, and therefore it is necessary to make an additional effort to attract them, and I encourage the representatives of the American business community to show a proactive approach in creating a business environment in Montenegro,” Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Gjeloshaj stated.

During this event, Mrs. Svetlana Vuksanović, the President of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro, introduced the “Rule of Dialogue” platform. The purpose of this platform is to enhance communication between the government and the business sector, with the intent of facilitating business and stimulating economic activity, particularly through the improvement of business policies.

“A predictable business environment is a prerequisite for attracting credible American investments to Montenegro, and therefore it is necessary to timely and continuously include representatives of the business community in the procedures for drafting laws, strategies and other regulations and to consult with them when creating policies that have an impact on their business activities,” said Mrs. Vuksanović.

Presented at the meeting was the work of the Committee for Suppression of the Gray Economy, whose mandate is to address matters falling within the purview of the Ministry of Economic Development. These matters encompass, among other things, concrete suggestions for curbing the country’s gray economy, strengthening corporate regulation through revisions to the Companies Law, and safeguarding intellectual property and competition, both of which mirror the state’s economic development.

Minister Gjeloshaj underlined the significance of ongoing collaboration between the Montenegrin government and the American Chamber of Commerce in enhancing the country’s business climate. This would be achieved, in particular, by involving AmCham representatives in the creation of critical regulations that govern Montenegro’s business landscape. Both sides have indicated their willingness to work together and share ideas to further enhance economic cooperation between Montenegro and the U.S.
