Labor legislation is important for shaping the business environment

Podgorica, July 28 – The president of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce, Svetlana Vuksanović, and the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Admir Adrović, agree that the timely inclusion of the business community in the process of creating labor legislation, which largely shapes the business environment, contributes to a better understanding of the private and public sectors.

Vuksanović and Adrović signed a Memorandum of Cooperation as part of the American Chamber of Commerce’s “Rule of Dialogue” program.

Creating a better and more precise legislative framework, as Vuksanović pointed out, contributes to making the market more competitive and attractive for investors.

“In the whole process, cooperation is the key to success.”If we take into account that the companies are those who apply the regulations in practice, then the envolvement of the business community in their drafting or modification, especially in the early stages, will eliminate possible business barriers. The members of the American Chamber of Commerce want to transfer their knowledge and experience gained from the daily application of legal acts and thus contribute to the improvement of the business environment. I am glad that our “Rule of Dialogue” program is the starting point for timely familiarization and involvement of the business community when designing regulations of importance for the business environment in the field of labor relations and occupational health and safety. We want to, together with partners from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, work on the modernization of the labor market, and thereby contribute to the development of a competitive market economy, but also to the reduction of unemployment,” said Vuksanović.

Minister Adrović pointed out that the goal of the cooperation between the two institutions is to improve the work and business environment in Montenegro, which is based on the Rule of Law and equal opportunities.

“The previous cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce, especially in the part of creating legal solutions through the adoption of the new Labor Law, which was adopted at the end of 2019 as a systemic law, was of exceptional importance. I believe that future cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce through the organization of meetings, workshops, webinars and conferences will be an opportunity to exchange good practices in order to achieve a value system based on socially responsible business, which can be the basis for retaining existing and attracting new renowned investors from the USA. and Western European countries,” said Adrović.

The memorandum with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare is one of six that the American Chamber of Commerce has signed so far, namely with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism, the Ministry of Science and Technological Development and the Ministry of Public Administration. On June 6, the American Chamber of Commerce signed an umbrella Memorandum of Cooperation on the “Rule of Dialogue” program with the Government of Montenegro.
