AmCham Montenegro Discusses Tax Policy with the Ministry of Finance

Representatives of AmCham Montenegro Tax Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, September 17, at the Ministry of Finance with the State Secretary, Mrs. Marina Perović and the Acting Director of the Directorate for Tax and Customs System, Mr. Novo Radović. The aim of the meeting was to present the AmCham Tax Committee position document, which combines various positions of AmCham members regarding the Montenegrin Tax System and provides for proposals for the improvement of the business environment in the area of taxation.

The document reflects AmCham’s position on the predictability of the Montenegrin Tax System and possibilities for creating a more stimulating business environment. The Tax Committee members agree that issues such as maintaining continuity in tax policy, amending tax legislation, retroactive implementation, discretion and the lack of transparency in implementing tax legislation, should be addressed in order to improve the overall business environment in Montenegro. “The meeting with the Ministry of Finance was an opportunity to highlight the importance of doing business in a more predictable tax environment and to show our willingness to actively participate in the process of its creation. We are glad to see that we share our views on the importance of continuous cooperation between the two institutions on improving the Tax Policy and the overall business environment in Montenegro”, said Ms. Ana Cmiljanić, the Chair of AmCham Tax Committee. The position document also provides for recommendations for solving specific issues, which resulted from AmCham members’ everyday experience.

Both parties agreed that positions stated in the document represent a solid ground for intensifying further cooperation in improving the Tax System in Montenegro.
